Sacred Music

Out of the jazz cellars and into the churches: Jazz meets Choral is a jazz project with a sacred context. To mark World Youth Day in 2005, Sebastian Gahler arranged Gregorian chorales for a trio. Even though the purist handling means the music could almost pass as a jazz standard, the original melody of the chorales was always preserved. The work was performed for the first time in August 2005 at Dusseldorf’s Bunker Church where the Sebastian Gahler Trio appeared together with the Dusseldorf Schola Gregoriana Cantus Benedictus conducted by Peter Zimmer, with the jazz versions and original chorales being played alternately.
